We have partnered with the Quesnel Writers' Group
to bring this exciting creative Writing Contest back for a second year!
​

The Quesnel Art Gallery and Gift Shop, in collaboration with the Quesnel Writers Group, invites local writers to participate in the 2026 Short Story Writing Contest! This contest challenges writers to craft a short story inspired by one of two featured artworks:

Choose one of these paintings to be the theme of your short story:

Submission Deadline: June 19th, 2026

Contest Categories:

• Children: Ages 9–13
• Youth: Ages 14–18
• Adult: Ages 19+​

 
​Entry Guidelines:

• Maximum of 500 words
• Open to residents of Quesnel and surrounding areas
• Submissions must be original and unpublished
• Stories must be inspired by one of the two specified artworks
• One entry per person
• Typed submissions only

Judging Criteria:
Entries will be evaluated based on the following:

• Creativity and Originality: The uniqueness of the story and its concept
• Relevance to Artwork: How well the story reflects or is inspired by the chosen artwork
• Organization and Structure: Logical flow and coherence of the narrative
• Grammar and Spelling: Proper use of language and mechanics
• Overall Impact: The story's ability to engage and resonate with readers
  
  

Prizes:
​Winners will be notified by email by the end of August. Prizes will be awarded at the Quesnel Writers Day event at the Quesnel Public Library on October 3. Information will be included in winners’ notification emails. Winning entries may be displayed or published by the Quesnel Art Gallery and Quesnel Writers Group.

• In-Person: Visit the Quesnel Art Gallery at 500 North Star Road to pick up a paper form and submit your story
• Send E-transfer: $5 entry fee must be paid to [email protected]
