student Mini murals project
This spring, the Quesnel Art Gallery Society proudly launched the first Student Mini Mural Workshop, a new youth arts initiative designed and organized by our team at QAGS. This exciting program invited a group of dedicated high school students from Correlieu Secondary School to learn the full process of mural creation, from concept to collaboration to final touches. We are so proud to present these completed murals to the community.
To inspire their journey, we hired local muralist Keith Prestone to lead the artistic instruction and offer professional guidance throughout the project. Correlieu art teacher Deryck Monsour supported the students with his time and encouragement.
The theme, “Community Spirit,” encouraged students to reflect on what makes Quesnel unique, and to express that through their own creative lens. The result? Four vibrant murals filled with heart, meaning, and youthful perspective.
The completed murals are currently on display at Quesnel’s Benjamin Moore Decor Gallery and will be permanently installed inside the Arts & Rec Centre this fall for the community to enjoy for years to come.
We are deeply grateful to The Vancouver Foundation for making this program possible through their generous support. And to Benjamin Moore Decor Gallery for donating all the paint used in the project. We hope to continue offering opportunities like this in the years to come, made possible through the ongoing support of generous donors, partners, and grantors.
Featured Murals and Artists:
Road to Paradise and Ruin by Skylar Hendley, Andrew Sawatsky, Logan Mayhew
Bird’s Eye View by Ocean Colebank, Jennifer Ouellette-Lindstrom
Where Two Rivers Meet by Aiyana Doern, Naomi McCart
Straight Outta Time by Maddison Tetreault, Tandra Rosger
