August Show
"Pastel Stories"

with Marcela Bodorikova

Artist statement:

My journey as an artist is not very long but I managed to dabble in different styles and mediums. From Zentangle art to abstracts, landscapes, still lives and portraits. From painting on porcelain to acrylics on canvas , drawing inks on paper to soft pastels .

It was through mixed media projects I got my first set of Jack Richeson pastels and it felt like this is what I was meant to do all along, I love their rich vibrant colours and buttery texture . I love the feeling of the dust covering my hands and face and hair while painting. It is the most complex medium I have ever worked with, using various kinds of under paintings and careful layering of colours creating the depth. My collection of soft pastels expanded from 30 Richeson pastels to a few hundred sticks . Each brand like Terry Ludwigs, NuPastels , Girault or Blue Earth have their own unique qualities and I love them all.

Pastel stories, are my stories of the world around me . Flowing water of the Quesnel river , falling leaves of the Cariboo poplars , the setting sun thru birch trees at Hallis lake ,mirrored waters of numerous Cariboo lakes , slushy muds of marshes , sunny faces of Black Eyed Susan flowers or even my own face reflecting back at me from the mirror.
