Calls  for  Submissions

ABOUT US:

The Quesnel Art Gallery is located in the Arts and Recreation Centre. It is fully accessible and features solo and group exhibitions by local, regional, and British Columbian artists.

In addition to offering a bright and intimate exhibition space, the gallery provides a variety of services, including staff and volunteers to curate and display the artwork, manage daily operations, provide promotional materials, handle marketing and social media, and host an opening reception.

SPACE DESCRIPTION:

We are a small gallery and have successfully exhibited both solo and group shows. In its entirety, the Gallery measures approximately 80 running feet and can accommodate approximately 20-30 pieces of wall art, depending on size. There is a large, secure display window outside of the gallery measuring 9 feet by 5 feet, and we also have 6 plinths which can be used to display work on.

The Quesnel Art Gallery invites individuals and groups to submit show proposals for the 2027 exhibition year.

Find the solo show agreement terms here & group show agreement terms here.

Our exhibition season runs from
January 2027 - November 2027.

Exhibits usually run for
3-4 weeks at a time.

Applications are due by
Monday June 1st, 2026.

PROCESS:
Applications are only accepted during our annual call for artists. Artists will be notified by email of the outcome of their application by the end of July, 2026.

Please fill in the application form below, and follow all instructions to complete your application.

You will receive an email to let you know if we have received your completed application.

● Establish a central idea or message that ties your exhibit together.
● Read the show agreement so you are familiar with our exhibition guidelines.
● Email us 5-15 digital prints of the work you are proposing to exhibit or examples of similar work saved as jpg files sent via email, Google Drive, or Dropbox.

All images should be labelled and accompanied by an image list with the artist name, title of each piece, medium and dimensions.

Submissions will be juried by an independent selection committee and evaluated on artistic and creative excellence, originality, representation and impact of work. Additional discussion points will be held around the balance of the subjects, media, emerging/established artists and artist location.

All artists will be notified by email within five weeks of the completion of the jury process. We are only able to select a limited amount of exhibitions and we receive a high volume of applications, thank you for your patience and understanding in this process.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We welcome art in all different mediums. We encourage proposals for exhibitions and artwork that focus on inclusion and diverse local stories, provoke conversations and/or connect to the geography and history of our area. Proposals from both emerging and established artists will be considered and preference may be given to local, Cariboo, and northern artists.

MEMBERSHIPS & COMMISSIONS:
Artists do not have to be a member to submit a show proposal or to be exhibited in the Gallery. Commission percentage is 35% , however if the artist brings their own sponsor the commission percentage will be reduced to 25%.

SALES:
We are a small space, hosting exhibitions for a 3-4 week time period. Our mandate is to provide a venue for artists to showcase their work, however the gallery cannot guarantee sales. Unfortunately at this time we are unable to provide Carfac royalty fees.

Artists are required to have at least 50% of their exhibited work available for sale at the Quesnel Art Gallery.

Payments will be made within 45 days of the end of an artist exhibition.

PREVIOUSLY EXHIBITED ARTISTS:
In order to ensure that there is a varied and interesting schedule, the Gallery will exhibit a solo artist no more than once every three years from the date they were last granted a show. If an artist was part of a group show they may apply for a solo show after two years.

All works must be original pieces which have not previously been exhibited at the Quesnel Art Gallery.
