Christa Krisman
Artist Biography Christa was born and raised in a village in the south of Germany close to Munich. She started painting at the age of six, inspired and influenced by the simple farm life and Mother Nature. She learned the trade of Professional Interior Design and Upholstery in Starnberg, Germany. Working for many years in that profession she gained many skills in colour selection, drawing and technical skills. She opened her own business in Starnberg, Germany in 1978 and was very successful until she immigrated to Canada in 2000, where she reopened her business in Revelstoke, BC.
After retiring in 2008 she moved to Quesnel, BC and started painting, taking classes and participating at the Tony Only Project in Wells, BC with mentors Harald Klunder and Libby Hague. It was a great learning experience for her. She had solo exhibitions, attended group shows and arts festivals in Quesnel, Smithers, Wells, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, Dawson Creek and Prince George. Her paintings are sold in Germany, Canada, Mexico and the United States. She now lives in Prince George, BC, Canada, for six months and in Mexico for six months in the winter. Christa Krisman
Artist Statement Art is like happiness - it is all inside. Memories of my travels or just images of situations of my daily life are nestled into my work. Also nature is a perfect guidance, colour, shapes, forms and texture - a great inspiration. For me, it is the process that is important to my existence - to the work - to the stillness of my mind - the moment I allow my soul to take over the canvas - a moment of peace and quiet - a perfect moment - a new creation.
Colours communicate - small areas are left alone - colour combinations develop - unexpected images emerge and the painting starts to come alive. I use everything that comes into my hands - pallet knives, big brushes, scrapers. Different mediums - music sheets - newspaper - old records - small pieces of metal - computer parts. I am always searching for something that adds to my development, captures my interest and brings some adventure and mystery into my work. I take great satisfaction to paint abstract on my own pace and with the spirit of my soul. I allow myself the chance to explore, develop and to grow while discovering new techniques. Everything is unique, every experience is a new experience. Every day I paint is a magical day. |
