Covid-19 Artist Statement For me, as for a lot of us, this crazy pandemic has been very unsettling, disruptive and confusing to almost every part of our lives, including art and art making.
So, I am doing what every good creative does... sticking my head in the preverbal "sand" and hoping it will all go quietly "away". It's only then, that I realize just because I have 'the time', (being in isolation) other things are STILL getting in the way. Good things mind you, like concerned friends thinking I shouldn't be so socially insulated. (Like I am wrapped-up in pink insulation, tucked away in an attic somewhere)... almost sounds good. But seriously, being away from it all has been difficult because I really do miss the social interaction and the artistic comradery. So, please enjoy the art show and listen to what these paintings are saying, because part of what you see here, really is a dichotomy of perspectives. Part of me is slightly relieved that I don't 'have to' be so social and part of me screams and raves against the unfairness, the tragedy and the seclusion. So, 'ipaint' and that helps me work through things and I lean on my faith, friends and family to help with the pain and the confusion. Hopefully the art can bring some clarity, some spirituality and familiarity to your lives, as well as mine. |
