Simonne Young
Artist Biography

I was born in Ocean Falls, B.C. and I travelled extensively as a young girl with my family. My love of art began when I visited the Art Gallery of Ontario in 1958.

I was married in Gold River, B.C. and moved to Prince George where I raised a family of five.  Art took a back seat to my family but I was still able to fit in a few art classes. I have enjoyed learning many mediums in art although my loves are still oil and acrylic painting.

My passion is and always has been abstract and impressionist painting. I have started a series of paintings depicting villages that I remember or imagine from my travels. I think the paintings are more like folk art and I have enjoyed this type of painting very much.

Artist Statement

I am self-taught but I have taken many classes from some amazing instructors. Art is peace of mind for me. Whether I am by myself or painting with a crowd I can get lost in my art. Memories of my travels or experiences of daily life are a great inspiration for me.

If I am not feeling well I can express it in my work and I find painting to be very therapeutic. My imagination has no bounds and I use this avenue to explore new and exciting techniques.

Every painting tells a story and I give myself permission to explore wherever my imagination wants to take me.
