Sandy Fontaine
Sandy has been creating with glass for the past 20+ years. Beginning with the copper foil method of “cold” glass (stained glass), she later included working with “warm” glass (fused glass). She has spent many hours experimenting and creating new designs and pieces.
Working with glass leaves her with many “scraps” of glass, which gives her the opportunity to “upcycle” into mosaic works. Her mosaic works include serving trays, tables and windows. She enjoys searching for objects that can be used in her work—whether it be twigs along a path, old bottles, windows, rocks, plates and so forth. One may see a dead piece of driftwood, a stone or a plate —she sees a wind chime or a fish in the ocean! She has enjoyed creating traditional glass panels, but her passion lies with a more modern and “funky” type of art! Sandy and her daughter Melanie operated Colours Artisan Studio & Giftshop in Quesnel where they created and sold their glassart, and gave instructional classes in stained glass, fused glass and mosaic art. Now retired, Sandy enjoys a slower pace but continues to promote and sell her work in local shops. |
